Duckett was injured in the thumb

England opener Ben Duckett was hit on the thumb during the second day of the first Test against Pakistan, preventing him from taking up his usual batting spot.

What is the injury?

Ben Duckett is suffering from a possible dislocation of his left thumb, after getting hit by an Abrar Ahmed shot towards the end of Pakistan's innings. Fielding at slip to Joe Root, Duckett managed to latch on to the offering on the second attempt, but was in visible discomfort as the ball hit the tip of his thumb.

After being checked on by the team physio, Duckett had to leave the field.

With Duckett unavailable to open the innings, stand-in captain Ollie Pope joined Zak Crawley to face the new ball, but fell for a second-ball duck to a stunner by Aamir Jamal.

What is the latest on the injury?

According to the team spokesperson, there's currently no clarity over whether Duckett would be able to bat on day three. England are hoping that the injury subsides overnight, and a scan is not been scheduled for now.

England are already without their regular captain Ben Stokes, who is eyeing a return with the second Test, having yet to recover from a hamstring issue that he sustained during The Hundred.

Olly Stone is also unavailable for the second Test, as he is set to fly back to the UK for his wedding.
