Watch: Part-timer Saim Ayub struck in his first Test over by dismissing Shakib Al Hasan with his gentle off-spin on the third day of the first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

The dashing opening batter found instant success while bowling his first-ever over in a Test, taking the prized wicket of Shakib. After the first three deliveries went for four runs, Ayub struck off his fourth in the 73rd over.

Shakib drove on the up off a ball pitched on length outside off-stump. There was no prominent footwork, which resulted in Shakib using his hands to reach for the shot, subsequently hitting it in the air. Pakistan captain Shan Masood caught a dolly at the cover, sliding across the turf to pouch it safely.

Ayub was ecstatic as he spread his hands up in the air in disbelief, given the ball wasn’t anything extraordinary. It was soft dismissal with the former Bangladesh captain returning for a 16-ball 15. The tourists slipped to 218-5 in response to Pakistan’s mammoth first innings total of 448.

Earlier in the match, Ayub had played an important knock of 56 off 98 balls after the hosts were reduced to 16-3 at the start of play. Pakistan recovered courtesy of 141 from Saud Shakeel and an unbeaten 171 not out from wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, declaring at 448-6.
