On day three of the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, pacer Khurram Shahzad devastated the visitors' top-order in an exhilarating opening spell.

Rain had washed out day one of the Test match, which was scheduled to begin on Friday (August 30). When play finally got underway on day two, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl.

Despite fifties from Saim Ayub (58), Shan Masood (57), and Salman Ali Agha (54), the visiting bowlers managed to get on top and bowl Pakistan out for 274. Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz starred with the ball to take 5-61. Bangladesh then reached 10-0 by the end of the day's play.

But on day three, the first session well and truly belonged to Pakistan, thanks to the fiery opening spell of pacer Khurram Shahzad.

He struck with the final ball of his second over on day three as Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan flicked a full, inswinging delivery straight to short mid-wicket. Shahzad picked up Shadman Islam with his next ball as the left-hander moved across his stumps only to see his leg stump knocked back.

Three balls later, Shahzad was at it again. Coming around the wicket, another inswinger accounted for another left-hander as captain Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to flick through the leg side. The ball's movement in the air beat the bat to crash into middle and leg stump, leaving Bangladesh at 20-3.

After Mir Hamza took two wickets, Shahzad struck again in his fifth over of the day to trap Shakib Al Hasan lbw to reduce Bangladesh to 26-6. His opening spell on day three read 6-0-14-4.

At the lunch break, Bangladesh had recovered through Litton Das (13*) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (33*) to 75-6.
