Shakib Al Hasan has been fined 10 percent of his match fee and has been given a demerit point for breaching ICC’s Code of Conduct

Shakib Al Hasan has been fined 10 percent of his match fee and has been given a demerit point for breaching ICC’s Code of Conduct during the first Test against Pakistan.

The incident occurred during the fifth day when Shakib threw the ball at Mohammad Rizwan in frustration. In the 33rd over, Shakib got ready to bowl his second delivery but Rizwan turned around to chat with the Bangladesh fielders. Shakib, who appeared frustrated at the last-minute pull-out, threw the ball above the head of Rizwan in anger, leaving the batter surprised.

The on-field umpire Richard Kettleborough was not impressed either and had a few words with Shakib.

Shakib fined for his conduct

Shakib, who has been named in an FIR for the murder of a Bangladeshi local, was penalised for breaching Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct that deals with “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

He has also been given a demerit point for the incident. Once a player is given a demerit point, it stays on their record for 24 months. They are suspended from at least one international game if he receives four demerit points over two years.

Currently, Shakib does not have a prior demerit point, with his last sanction by the ICC coming in December 2018 in the first T20I against the West Indies.
