Shakib Al Hasan, who has been charged with an alleged murder, could be pulled out of the second Test against Pakistan from August 30.

Shakib Al Hasan, who has been charged among 147 people with the alleged murder of a garment worker during the Bangladesh protests, could be pulled out of the second Test against Pakistan from August 30, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

A case was registered against the cricketer after Mohammad Rubel died after being hit by a bullet during the protests in Bangladesh in Dhaka. A case was filed by Rubel’s father, who accused several leaders of the Awami League, including Shakib, an MP, and the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, of his son’s death. Shakib was playing in the Global T20 Canada on the day Rubel passed away, on August 5.

Shakib is a member of the parliament after he won the general elections in January this year from the district of Magura. He is currently playing the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

According to reports in Cricbuzz, the BCB has been sent a legal notice by Shajib Mahmood Alam, a lawyer in the Supreme Court, for the immediate removal of Shakib from all forms of cricket.

BCB President: Call on Shakib’s participation in the Pakistan series to be taken soon

Faruque Ahmed, the newly elected president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, told Cricbuzz that an official decision on Shakib’s participation in the second Test against Pakistan will be taken after the end of the ongoing game. Bangladesh are currently leading by 94 runs after the end of day four, led by a knock of 191 by Mushfiqur Rahim.

Faruque told reporters: “A case has been lodged [against Shakib]. We are yet to get any legal notice. FIR (first information letter) was given in the case and later there will be an investigation and following that, the case will move in one direction or the other.

“After tomorrow, once the game is over, we will sit and take a decision. By this time, we will also be able to say something about the legal notice as we will have received it by that time,” he said.

He added that the long break between the two Test matches would allow the BCB to think about what could be done about Shakib. “After tomorrow, we can think exactly after getting the legal notice and based on that. I cannot withdraw him from the middle of the Test match. The second Test match is from August 30, so there is a gap between the games. During this period, we can think about what can be done in this regard.”
