South Africa have added two experienced internationals to their squad for the first ODI of their tri-series against New Zealand and Pakistan.
On Friday (February 7), Cricket South Africa announced that fast bowler Lungi Ngidi and left-arm leggie Tabraiz Shamsi have been added to make up a 13-man squad for their first engagement of the series, against New Zealand in Lahore on February 10. The pair have played 124 and 125 international matches respectively, adding some experience to the fresh-faced squad which was announced earlier this week.
Shamsi, who recently opted out of a central contract with CSA, has not played a T20I since the World Cup final in June 2024, but played an ODI as recently as the home series against Pakistan in December. Ngidi last played an ODI against Ireland last October, and a T20I against the same opposition in September before a groin injury put him out of commission from November to January. He recently returned to action in the SA20.
South Africa's squad for the first match of the tri-series contains six uncapped players, thanks to several first-choice players being tied up with SA20 commitments. The final of the competition is between MI Cape Town and Sunrisers Eastern Cape on Sunday, a day before the clash against New Zealand.
Reeza Hendricks, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Ottneil Baartman, David Bedingham, Tony de Zorzi, Marco Jansen and Tristan Stubbs are among the internationals who will be involved in that fixture.

South Africa's initial squad also had fast bowler Gerald Coetzee included in a return from injury, but mere hours after the announcement, he was injured in a training session and has since been ruled out of the tri-series and the Champions Trophy. Nandre Burger, Lizaad Williams and Anrich Nortje are the other quicks on the Proteas' injury list.
