Three Pakistan players - Shaheen Afridi, Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam - have been fined after being found to have breached the ICC Code of Conduct during heated exchanges in the field against South Africa in their ODI tri-series win yesterday (February 12).
Shaheen Shah Afridi fined 25 percent of match fee
Afridi was fined 25 percent of his match fee for breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to "inappropriate physical contact with a player". During South Africa's innings, Afridi was involved in an altercation with batter Matthew Breetzke, after the two exchanged words over a gesture Breetzke seemingly made with his bat.
When Breetzke took a run the ball after the pair were separated, Afridi appeared to alter the course of his walk back to his mark to cross into the batter's path. Breetzke made contact with Afridi and tripped, turning around to confront the bowler after completing the run. The following confrontation required both the umpires and Temba Bavuma to intervene to separate the two players.
Saud Shakeel, Kamran Ghulan fined 10 percent of match fee
Shakeel and Ghulam have been fined 10 percent each of their match fees for an incident that occurred in the following over. A miscommunication between the two batters meant that Bavuma was run out by a direct hit from Shakeel, leaving South Africa 170-2. In celebration, Shakeel ran over to Bavuma and celebrated in close proximity to him, which found to breach Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct relating to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal".
Tempers flared in the Pakistan-South Africa ODI on Wednesday, as the umpires had to intervene between Shaheen Shah Afridi and Matthew Breetzke.

Ghulam, who was a substitute fielder in the match, was also fined for celebrating too close to Bavuma. The celebrations from the two players forced Bavuma to pause his walk off the field while the players were in his way.
After South Africa reached 352-5 in their 50 overs, with Bavuma, Breetzke and Heinrich Klaasen all making scores of 80 plus, Pakistan pulled off a record chase to win the game.
Centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha got them over the line with an over to spare, setting a national record for the highest-ever successful chase by Pakistan in a men's ODI. The chase was also the seventh-highest of all time in a men's ODI by any team.
Pakistan will play New Zealand in the final of the tri-series tomorrow (February 14).
