New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have provided an update on the injury sustained by opener Rachin Ravindra during the first ODI of their tri-series, against Pakistan.

During the first match, Ravindra was struck on the head while fielding in the deep, appearing to lose the ball in the floodlights after running in to attempt a catch. He began bleeding profusely from the head, but remained mobile and walked off the field alongside the New Zealand team's medical staff.

Shortly after Ravindra left the field, an initial update on the situation from the New Zealand camp said: "He sustained a laceration to the forehead which has been addressed and treated at the ground, but is otherwise well. He came through his first HIA [Head Injury Assessment] well and will continue to be monitored under HIA processes."

An NZC statement read: "Rachin Ravindra sustained a laceration to the forehead after being struck by the ball in yesterday's ODI tri-series win over Pakistan in Lahore.

"Ravindra passed the initial head injury assessment and the laceration, which required stitches, was addressed, and treated, at the ground. He is otherwise well and will continue to be monitored under HIA protocols. He is unlikely to feature in tomorrow's match against South Africa."

Ravindra's injury is the latest in a long line of those suffered by players who are set to take part in the Champions Trophy which begins in 10 days' time.

Haris Rauf also left the field for Pakistan yesterday while Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee, Saim Ayub, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have all been ruled out of the tournament. Jacob Bethell, Lockie Ferguson and Jasprit Bumrah remain doubtful for their respective teams.
