Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha’s record double-hundred partnership helped Pakistan pull off a historic chase during the tri-series match against South Africa at Karachi.
Chasing a daunting 353 in the virtual semi-final of the tri-nation series, Pakistan took the aggressive route from the word go but were reduced to 91-3 in the 11th over.
Captain Rizwan (122 not off 128 balls) and Agha (134 off 103) helped the hosts pull off their most successful run chase with six wickets and an over remaining. Their previous best was 349 against Australia, three years ago.
Rizwan and Salman stitched a 260-run stand for the fourth wicket, a new national record for that wicket. Overall, it is the third-highest for Pakistan in ODIs. Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman's 304 v Zimbabwe in 2018, and Inzamam-ul-Haq and Aamer Sohail's 263 v New Zealand in 1994 are the only pairs ahead of them.
This is also the highest partnership against South Africa, eclipsing the previous record of 257, also by a Pakistan pair, between Saleem Elahi and Abdul Razzaq in 2002.
