The inaugural fixture is a repeat of last season’s final, which was won by Lahore Qalandars. Batting first at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the Qalandars put up 180 runs on the board. Multan Sultans could not chase that total down and lost the summit clash by 42 runs. Mohammad Hafeez was named the Player of the Match in the final, while Mohammad Rizwan was named the Player of the Series.
This season will again see six teams competing for the title. The six teams are Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi. The 2023 edition, the eighth season of the PSL, is expected to provide plenty of entertainment to the fans. A lot of top-quality players have also signed up for the league, making it one of the high-profile T20 franchise leagues in the world.
The opening fixture will take place at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, while the second game will be played between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium in Karachi. The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi will also host matches in the second half of the league phase.
Lahore, meanwhile, will host each of the playoff matches. The format of the PSL mandates that the top two-placed sides will clash in Qualifier 1, with the winner directly earning a ticket to the final. The teams that finish third and fourth will play the Eliminator, with the winner facing the loser of Qualifier 1.
