Watch: Abrar Ahmed dismissed Asitha Fernando with a ‘sleight of the hand’, bowling a googly that was left alone by the batter during the second Sri Lanka-Pakistan Test.
Abrar AHmed, who had picked up 34 wickets in his first five Tests, added four more to his tally on day one at Colombo, helping pack up Sri Lanka for 166. The highlight was the googly to send back Asitha Fernando in the 47th over of the innings, when the batter was unable to pick the googly.
Abrar pitched the ball outside the off stump, and Fernando leaned in towards the ball and left it alone, seemingly anticipating a leg break that would leave him.
However, the ball turned back in sharply past his defence and crashed on to the off-stump. Fernando had to walk back for eight as Sri Lanka lost their ninth wicket for 163. They were eventually all out three runs later.
Abrar ended with figures of 4-69, having also dismissed Dhananjaya de Silva, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Ramesh Mendis.
Pakistan ended day one in the driver’s seat, scoring 145-2 in 28.3 overs, in a daze of ‘PakBall’.
