Pakistan and Sri Lanka finished seventh and fifth in the points table of the last cycle of the World Test Championship. They would be looking to make a strong start to the 2023-2025 edition as they face each other in two Test matches in Galle and Colombo respectively.

Both teams have announced their squads for the series. While Pakistan have announced their squad for both Tests, Sri Lanka have named theirs for the first Test only.

Sri Lanka vs Pakistan Tests 2023: Team news

Pakistan have been bolstered by the addition of Shaheen Shah Afridi, their star seamer, who makes a Test comeback after exactly one year. They have also named two uncapped players Muhammad Huraira and Aamer Jamal in their squad. Babar Azam will lead the side, with wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan being his deputy.

Sri Lanka have included Dilshan Madushanka in their squad for the first Test. He turned heads in the World Cup Qualifier recently and is yet to make his Test debut. Left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya, meanwhile, misses out as Praveen Jayawickrema, Prabath Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, and uncapped Lakshitha Manasinghe make up the spin department.
