On Wednesday, England star Joe Root drew level with former Australian captain Ricky Ponting among players with the most 150-plus scores in Test history, during the first Test against Pakistan. Here's the full set of batters ahead of them on the all-time list.

In reponse to Pakistan's first-innings score of 556, England had reached 96-1 by the end of day two on Tuesday, at which point Root was unbeaten on 32.

In the morning session on day three, Zak Crawley was dismissed to bring regular opener Ben Duckett, batting down the order due to a thumb injury, to the crease. By lunch, Root had moved past his half-century to score 72, going past Alastair Cook to become England's highest-ever run-scorer in Test cricket.

The record remains Indian great Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 20, with Brian Lara and Kumar Sangakkara on 19 each.

In moving level with Ponting, Root also moved clear of three other players still on 14 scores of 150 or more – Jacques Kallis, Virender Sehwag and Steve Waugh.

The closest active player to Root's tally is India's Virat Kohli, with eleven 150-plus scores.
