Watch: Shoaib Malik was dismissed in bizarre fashion against Bangladesh, run out when lazily returning to the crease off the bowling of Mustifizur Rahman.
Malik had been attempting to run the ball down to third man only to play the ball into the ground and through to Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan.
With Malik out of his crease and the ball still travelling towards Hasan, the Bangladesh wicketkeeper removed his glove and picked up the ball in his right hand before throwing the stumps down.
As the ball had been travelling towards Hasan, Malik was gesturing with his bat to the direction of third man in apparent frustration at the failed execution of his shot. This meant that when the ball was thrown at the stumps he was unable to get his bat down in time as replays showed his bat still just in the air when the bails came off.
As a result, Malik was dismissed for a three-ball duck as Pakistan were reduced to 24-4 in reply to Bangladesh’s total of 127-7.
The dismissal has caused some controversy after being officially listed as a run out, although some people are arguing that it isn’t clear whether Malik had attempted a run or not and therefore whether the dismissal should be listed as stumped.
