Pakistan ODI win Australia

Pakistan came from being one-down to win a bilateral ODI series in Australia for the second time in history. Here are their player ratings from the series.

Mohammad Rizwan: 9/10

3 matches | 74 runs at 74.00, SR 76, HS: 44 | Ct: 10

Rizwan created history in his first ever series as full-time captain, leading Pakistan to their first bilateral ODI series win in Australia since 2002. He made a vital 44 in the first match, the only time he was dismissed, and held 10 catches behind the stumps. A near-perfect outing.

Saim Ayub: 8.5/10

3 matches | 125 runs at 41.67, SR 98, HS: 82, 1 fifty | Ct: 4

Ayub failed in the first game but ensured there were no hiccups in the low chases in the other two games. Some of his strokes in the second ODI were breathtaking. Gets half a point for his four catches.

Abdullah Shafique: 8/10

3 matches | 113 runs at 56.50, SR 76, HS: 64*, 1 fifty

Like Ayub, Shafique had an ordinary first game, and was the ice to Ayub’s fire in the two chases. He and Ayub made Pakistan’s only fifties in the series.

Babar Azam: 8/10

3 matches | 80 runs at 80.00, SR 85, HS: 37

Babar never failed in the series. After being undone by a googly in the first ODI, he stayed put to complete two chases, demonstrating yet again his class in his best format.

Kamran Ghulam: 1/10

3 matches | 5 runs at 5.00, SR 83, HS: 5

Made only five in his only innings, but got out to arguably the best ball of the series.

Salman Ali Agha: 1/10

3 matches | 12 runs at 12.00, SR 41, HS: 12

Pakistan’s new vice-captain had little to do in the series. He batted once, made 12, and his bowling was not needed.

Irfan Khan: 2.5/10

3 matches | 22 runs at 22.00, SR 63, HS: 22 | Ct: 4

Irfan’s sedate 22 on debut – his only innings of the series – ended in a run out, but helped Pakistan reach 200. Gets half a point for his four catches.

Shaheen Shah Afridi: 9/10

3 matches | 24 runs at 24.00, SR 126, HS: 24 | 8 wickets at 12.62, Ec 3.76, BBI: 3-26

Two three-fours and two wickets in the other game sum up Shaheen’s exceptional series. Fast and hostile with the new ball, he could have got more wickets had the scalps not been shared. Gets half a point for the blinder at Melbourne.

Naseem Shah: 8.5/10

3 matches | 40 runs at 40.00, SR 103, HS: 40 | 5 wickets at 31.60, Ec 6.00, BBI: 3-54

Naseem recovered from an injury to impress, especially in the decider at Perth. He was probing, if expensive, and gets half a point for his 40 in the first match.

Haris Rauf: 9/10

3 matches | 10 wickets at 12.00, Ec 5.00, BBI: 5-29, 1 5WI

The pick of the Pakistan fast bowlers, Rauf was exceptional as a change bowler, often producing breakthroughs just when Australia seemed to turn things around.

Mohammad Hasnain: 7/10

3 matches | 3 wickets at 34.00, Ec 5.05, BBI: 1-24

The fourth of the quartet but just as impactful as the others, Hasnain impressed throughout the series. He was just as responsible for Pakistan requiring only three overs across three matches from their fifth bowler.
