Australia beat Pakistan in the first T20I of the three-match series between the two sides at the Gabba. Here's what the result has done to the ICC rankings.
Having lost to Pakistan in the ODI leg of the tour, Australia struck back in Brisbane in the first T20I. With several of their top flight players not available ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Josh Inglis led the side, which also featured Aaron Hardie and Nathan Ellis.
After the game was delayed for several hours by persistent rain, it was shortened to a seven-overs-per-side thrash. Glenn Maxwell took control of Australia's innings batting first after he came in at three at the start of the second over. He his a four off his first ball and took three more boundaries off Naseem Shah in that over. He then set his sights on Haris Rauf, who he took for a four and two sixes, before he was out in the following over to Abbas Afridi for a 19-ball 43. A good finish from Stoinis took Australia to a total of 93-4 at the end of the innings.
Pakistan never really got going in the chase, losing five wickets in the first 15 balls of their innings. Sahibzada Farhan skied Spencer Johnson to midwicket before Mohammad Rizwan picked out backwards point. Usman Khan got a thick-edge to deep third man at the end of the second over before Babar Azam holed out off the very next ball. Irfan Khan was the fifth wicket, caught again at deep-midwicket, before Salman Agha deepened Pakistan's troubles by top-edging to Inglis five balls later.
Despite a cameo from Abbas Afridi, Pakistan finished 29 runs short of their target on 64-9. The series will move on to Sydney on Saturday, November 16, before it concludes in Hobart on Monday, November 18.
