Shaw has signed a deal to play the second-half of the county season in England following the conclusion of the Duleep Trophy. This is Shaw’s first time playing professional domestic cricket in England, and includes appearing for Northants in the One Day Cup in the One Day Cup which got underway this week.
Opening the innings chasing 279 in Cheltenham, the Northants top order started to collapse around Shaw. They lost their first five wickets for 30 runs and by the time Shaw was joined at the crease by Lewis McManus, he had contributed 20 of those 30 runs.
Shaw and McManus were able to take Northants past 50, but their partnership was short lived. Van Meekeren banged a short ball into the pitch which zoned in towards Shaw’s helmet. Shaw tried to hook the ball but, in a combination of putting power on the shot and making sure it didn’t hit his head, his momentum made him lose his balance.
He fell to the floor and knocked into his stumps in the process. As he realised what he’d done, he continued to sit on the ground in disbelief. He had to leave the field for 34 off 35 balls, leaving Northants 54-6. The rest of the Northants’ top six put on 10 off 46 between them, and though a century from No.8 Tom Taylor led a spirited fightback, the Steelbacks eventually fell to a 29-run defeat.
