Watch: Cheteshwar Pujara made 106 not out, his 15th List A hundred, during a One-Day Cup match at the County Ground in Northampton.
Sussex posted 240-7 in a One-Day Cup Group B match reduced to 45 overs a side after captain Tom Haines opted to bat. Cheteshwar Pujara made 106 of these on his own – off 119 balls – and remained not out. His innings included four fours and two sixes, one off each of Justin Broad and Tom Taylor.
Of his Sussex teammates, no one made it to even 30, though there were some lower-order cameos. For hosts Northamptonshire, Jack White claimed 3-29, Rob Keogh 2-23, and Luke Procter 2-46.
This was the 15th List A hundred of Pujara’s career. Four of them have been for Sussex: 107 against Warwickshire, 174 against Surrey, and 132 against Middlesex – all in 2022 – and today’s innings against Northamptonshire.
The 174 against Surrey remains Pujara’s career-best as well as the third-best for Sussex (after Ali Orr’s 206 not out against Somerset and Tom Alsop’s 189 not out against Middlesex).
From 11 innings for them, he has made 753 runs at an average of 83.67, to go with 1,639 runs at 91.05 with eight hundreds in first-class cricket.
Bradley Currie (2-18) and Jack Carson (2-45) then reduced Northamptonshire to 173-7. At that point, they needed 70 in 44 balls (the target had been adjusted to 243) with three wickets in hand, but Taylor (42 not out in 23 balls) and Broad (22 not out in 16) saw them home without the loss of another wicket, with eight balls to spare.
In the entire match, Pujara’s innings remained the only score in excess of fifty.
