Prithvi Shaw broke a flurry of records as he amassed a 153-ball 244 in Northamptonshire’s One-Day Cup fixture against Somerset at Wantage Road.

Shaw joined an elite club of just four players to have scored multiple List A double hundreds – Ali Brown, Rohit Sharma and Travis Head are the only other players to have achieved the feat.
Shaw, the India international who played last played for his country over two years ago, was playing his third game for Northants. His stint with Northants had started quietly with Shaw registering scores of 34 and 26 in his first two appearances for the county but today he emphatically announced his arrival in county cricket.
Shaw’s 244 means that he now possesses two of the highest 10 scores in men’s List A cricket; he had previously scored 227 not out for Mumbai against Puducherry in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in India back in 2021. It ranks as the sixth-highest individual score in List A cricket, and the second-highest hit in England after Brown’s 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002. It is the highest ever List A score by an overseas player in county cricket. Not only is it the highest List A score by a Northamptonshire batter but Shaw also became the first player to score List A double hundreds in more than one country.

The 23-year-old has long been tipped to reach the top of the game but has endured a tough couple of years. Shaw had a Test hundred to his name before his 19th birthday but is yet to win back his place in the India Test set-up after being dropped after the 2020 Adelaide Test against Australia. In white-ball cricket, despite averaging more than 50 with a strike rate in the 120s in List A cricket, Shaw has only played six ODIs. His T20 strike rate of 150.29 has only seen him win a solitary T20I cap. He did, however, endure a fallow year in the IPL, averaging less than 15 for the Delhi Capitals.
Northants eventually finished their innings on 415-8. Shaw is set to play for Northants for the entirety of this year’s One-Day Cup campaign.
