Shaw is currently playing for Northants in the English domestic competition and took apart Somerset in his third innings. He scored 244 off 153 balls, coming close to carrying his bat through the innings. He started moderately, scoring 15 off his first 17 deliveries and reaching 30 by the end of the powerplay. Accelerating from there, he hit his first six of the innings off Shoaib Bashir in the 15th over.

He reached his half century three balls later, crashing a four off Danny Lamb. With Emilio Gay having got out shortly after the powerplay, Shaw built a hundred-run partnership with Ricardo Vasconcelos before Vasconcelos got out with Shaw six runs short of his hundred.

Having brought up three figures off 81 balls, Shaw ramped up the pace further. He hit a six off Bashir from the final ball of the 31st over and followed up with another maximum off Lewis Goldsworthy from the next ball he faced. Consecutive boundaries came in the following three over as Shaw passed 150 with 15 overs still left in the innings.

Such was his acceleration that his double came up just 47 balls after he passed three figures. It was Shaw’s second List A double-century, having previously scored 227 not out for Mumbai against Puducherry in 2021. However, he was able to surpass that total with ease, hitting a powerful six over extra-cover to go to his highest score in the format.

Having gone to that milestone, however, he slowed down and was kept off strike towards back-end of the innings. He was caught in the deep off the final ball of Danny Lamb’s 48th over for 244, triggering a significant collapse. Northants lost three wickets in the following over and one in the final, finishing the innings on 415-8.
