The two sides last played each other earlier this year, when England toured New Zealand for a T20I and ODI series. While the tourists won both series, there were positives for New Zealand, who won a match in both series. The White Ferns haven't played any international cricket since, but England are coming into the series off the back of a T20I and ODI series white-wash over Pakistan.
It was announced a day before the start of the series (June 25) that Ryana MacDonald-Gay could be in line for a first senior international cap, after she was called-up to the squad to cover niggles in the fast-bowling group. The first match will take place at Chester-le-Street before the three-match series moves on to Gloucester and Worcester.
The series isn't part of the ICC Women's Championship and thus will not count towards qualification for the next World Cup in 2025. New Zealand are currently six in the table, and teetering on the brink of slipping into the group who will have to go through additional qualification stages to reach the main tournament.
Following the three-match ODI series there will be a five-match T20I series as both sides gear up for the T20 World Cup in just a few months time. These could be England's last few matches before heading out to the tournament, with no news as of yet over potential matches against Ireland later in the summer. New Zealand will play Australia before the tournament in a three-match T20I series in September.
