Mitchell Santner tosses a ball up during a training session before New Zealand's T20I series against Sri Lanka

New Zealand and Sri Lanka are set to get underway in a three-match T20I series today (December 28) in Mount Maunganui.

Sri Lanka are about to embark on a six-game limited overs tour of New Zealand. The two teams will contest three T20Is either side of the new year, before playing three ODIs against each other in early January.

The ODI leg of the tour will be particularly interesting due to its proximity to the Champions Trophy, though Sri Lanka did not qualify for the eight-team tournament after finishing ninth at the 2023 World Cup.

The T20I series will be Mitchell Santner's first since being named as New Zealand's full-time white-ball captain. One of the more eye-catching selections in the New Zealand squad is that of Bevon Jacobs, the uncapped 22-year-old batter who was picked up in the 2025 IPL auction by Mumbai Indians.

New Zealand are currently placed sixth in the ICC T20I team rankings. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, are currently ranked eighth.
