New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the sides' three-match T20I series which came to an end on January 2, 2025. Here's how that result has affected the team rankings in the format.
In the third T20I which took place on Thursday (January 2), Sri Lanka managed to pull off a consolation win in Nelson, scoring 218-5 batting first thanks to Kusal Perera's first T20I century, and managing to keep the hosts down to 211-7.
New Zealand had won the previous two matches in Mount Maunganui – the first by eight runs and the second by 45 runs. Kiwi seamer Jacob Duffy was named Player of the Series for his eight wickets.

As far as the rankings are concerned, neither side has moved from where they were before the series began. New Zealand stay in fifth spot, with a rating of 247 – the same as West Indies (4th) and South Africa (6th). Their points total has gone up though, from 12578 to 13324.
Sri Lanka stay in eighth spot with a team rating of 232, four behind Pakistan in seventh and three ahead of Bangladesh in ninth. Their points total has gone from 10467 to 11159. India remain the world's top-ranked team with a rating of 268.
