New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the sides' three-match ODI series which came to an end today (January 11). Here's how that result has affected the team rankings in the format.

In the third and final ODI which took place in Auckland, Sri Lanka pulled off a consolation win. Batting first, they scored 290-8 despite a four-wicket haul from Matt Henry, who became the second-fastest New Zealand bowler to reach 150 ODI wickets. In response, the hosts were skittled out for 150 after Asitha Fernando, Maheesh Thekshana and Eshan Malinga picked up three wickets each.

New Zealand had won the previous two matches – the first in Wellington by nine wickets and the second in Hamilton by 113 runs. Henry was named Player of the Series for his nine wickets at an average of 10.33.

As far as the rankings are concerned, neither side has moved from where they were before the series began. New Zealand stay in fifth spot, with a rating of 100. Their points total has gone up though, from 3442 to 3783.

Sri Lanka remain in the sixth spot with a team rating of 97, one rung below their pre-series status quo. However, their points total has gone from 5381 to 5630. India stay the world's top-ranked team with a rating of 118.
