Matt Henry of New Zealand appeals during game three of the Men's ODI series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Eden Park, on January 11, 2025, in Auckland, New Zealand

Matt Henry took four wickets in the third ODI between New Zealand and Sri Lanka in Auckland to reach his 150th ODI wicket. Henry has become the second-fastest New Zealand bowler to achieve the landmark.

Having already lost the series, Sri Lanka put up a fight in the dead rubber. After opting to bat first three half-centuries got them to a total of 290-8 in 50 overs. Openers Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando formed a 69-run partnership before the latter perished for 17. Nissanka and Kusal Mendis struck fifties, getting 66 and 54, respectively.

Kamindu Mendis chipped in with a handy 46, while Liyanage’s 53 off 52 ensured the tourists got to a competitive score.

Henry got to his 150th ODI wicket when he removed Janith Liyanage with a low full toss in the final over of Sri Lanka’s innings. He finished his spell taking four wickets for 55 runs in 10 overs.

Henry took 85 matches to achieve the feat, the second fastest by a New Zealand bowler. Trent Boult holds the record for taking his 150th wicket in his 81st match, ranking fifth on the all-time global list.

Overall, Henry is the eighth fastest in the world to get to the milestone. Australia’s Mitchell Starc dominates the chart for completing the feat in 77 matches, while second-ranked Pakistan’s Saqlian Mushtaq did in 78 and Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami, jointly placed third, took 80 each.
