New Zealand wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay was left unbeaten on 99 during his side's second ODI against Pakistan.
After a 73-run win in the first ODI in Napier, New Zealand were once again sent in to bat in Hamilton. Debutant Rhys Mariu opened the innings alongside Nick Kelly, playing just his second international match.
Kelly put Pakistan to the sword early on, before being dismissed for 31 off 23 to leave his side 54-1. The visitors wrested back some control in the middle overs as they managed to dismiss Mariu, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls and Michael Bracewell cheaply to reduce the hosts from 71-1 to 132-5.
Muhammad Abbas and wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay then fought back, putting on 77 for the sixth wicket before the former departed for 41. With only the tail for company, Hay then stepped on the accelerator.

On 36 off 47 when Abbas got out, Hay made his way to a half-century off 61 balls, and then scored 46 off his next 17 deliveries, including four sixes and two fours in the last three overs of the innings. He was eventually unbeaten on 99, having lifted New Zealand to 292-8.
In the process, Hay became just the 16th player to score an unbeaten 99 in a men's ODI. He is the first player from New Zealand to do so since Bruce Edgar in February 1981, and just the third wicketkeeper overall after Andy Flower (1999) and Swapnil Patil (2014).
