After starting his innings with seven dot balls in a row, Mitchell collected two singles off his next two deliveries to bring up his 2,000th run in ODI cricket. He went on to score 43 off 53, before becoming Javed's second victim of the day.

Having reached the 2,000-run landmark in 47 innings, Mitchell became the fastest player from New Zealand to get there in men's ODIs. The previous record was held by Andrew Jones, who reached the mark in 52 innings in February 1991. 47 innings is also the joint-eighth fastest of all time. India's Shubman Gill retains the all-time record, reaching 2,000 ODI runs in just 38 innings.
