Pakistan rookie opener Hasan Nawaz slammed the fastest T20I century in his country’s history against New Zealand on Friday (March 21) to enter into record books.
After a scoreless start in his first two matches, Nawaz bounced back with an unbeaten 105 off 45 balls. His innings helped Pakistan chase down 205 in just 16 overs, marking the fastest run chase in T20 history. Nawaz also achieved a significant milestone by reaching his century in 44 balls, becoming the fastest Pakistan batter to score a T20I hundred.
Overall, Nawaz's century is now the second-fastest by a Pakistan batter across all formats. The record is held by Shahid Afridi, who scored a 37-ball century against Sri Lanka in 1996. This was the fastest in ODIs for a long time until it was broken first by New Zealand’s Corey Anderson (36 balls) in 2014 and then by South Africa’s AB de Villiers (31 balls) a year later.

Afridi features twice more in the top five list of Pakistan batters with the fastest ton – with a 45-ball century against India in 2005 and a 53-ball century against Bangladesh in 2010, both achieved in ODIs.
Misbah-ul-Haq’s 56-ball century against Australia in Abu Dhabi in 2014 is the only Test innings to feature in the top ten list. At the time, he equalled Viv Richards' record for the fastest Test century before it was surpassed by Brendon McCullum’s 54-ball ton in his farewell match, also against Australia.
