Shaheen Afridi left his imprint on the start of the New Zealand run chase at Rawalpindi, taking two wickets in his opening over to leave the tourists reeling at 4-2 in their chase of 194.

Afridi, who had had a relatively quiet series by his standards going into the fifth T20I at Rawalpindi, made an immediate breakthrough, dismissing New Zealand captain Tom Latham with the first ball of the innings.

The left-hander tamely chipped Afridi to Shadab Khan at backward point to bring Will Young to the middle. Young survived three balls – during which he picked up four runs with a crisp cover drive – before also falling to Afridi, edging one to Mohammad Rizwan behind the stumps.

It continued an excellent game for Rizwan whose 98 not out earlier in the day was largely responsible for Pakistan’s imposing score.
