Watch: Tom Blundell was adjudged lbw despite a thick edge during the first Test match against Pakistan, in Karachi. He did not opt for the DRS either.

On the third day, New Zealand had strengthened their position in the game, reaching 427-4 in their first innings in response to Pakistan’s 438. Kane Williamson and Blundell shared a 90-run stand in 32.2 overs before Mohammad Wasim Jr was rewarded for his toil.

The last ball of the 127th over of the innings nipped back sharply. It hit Blundell, rooted on the crease, on the back pad, and on-field umpire Aleem Dar immediately raised his finger to signal ‘out’. Following a short chat with his partner Williamson, Blundell walked away for 47 in 116 despite New Zealand having three reviews left.

However, replays suggested there were two sounds and deeper introspection showed that the ball would have hit the inside edge first before striking Blundell on the pads.

Pakistan got another scalp soon after, with Michael Bracewell departing soon after for five to Abrar Ahmed. New Zealand ended the day with a slender two-run lead with four wickets in hand.
