Watch: Naseem Shah took two wickets in two balls on his way to a second consecutive ODI five-for, including cleaning up New Zealand debutant Henry Shipley for a golden duck with a rapid yorker.
In a scorching spell Naseem left New Zealand reeling when he dismissed Michael Bracewell and Shipley with consecutive deliveries. Bracewell had been going well in the Blackcaps’ recovery, after they were reduced to 69-3 inside the first 15 overs, and was on 43 off 41 deliveries when Naseem cleaned him up.
Bowling just short of a length on leg stump, Bracewell backed away making room to flay it into the off side. But, instead of going away from him, the ball angled in and straightened, keeping low to take the under-edge of the bat and crash into the stumps.
The wicket brought Shipley to the crease to face Naseem with his tail and speeds up, an intimidating situation on international debut for the 26-year-old. Just moments later, he was walking back with his stumps also castled after a 143kph yorker had swung in between his bat and pad, crashing into the stumps.
While Tim Southee successfully negotiated Naseem’s hat-trick delivery, the Pakistan quick rattled through the New Zealand tail and dismissed Mitchell Santner in the final over of the innings to complete his second ODI five-for. It is the second in successive matches in the format by Naseem, he took 5-33 in the previous ODI he featured in for Pakistan, helping them defend 206 against Netherlands in August.
New Zealand posted 255-9 for Pakistan to chase from their fifty overs in Karachi.
