Watch: Few hat-tricks are uneventful, but if there is such a thing as an action-packed hat-trick, that is what Matt Henry took for New Zealand in the first T20I against Pakistan today (April 14).
He delivered a lifter to Shadab Khan, a ripper to Iftikhar Ahmed first ball – though it needed a review to confirm – before being pulled from the attack, meaning he had to wait for the hat-trick ball.
When he was re-introduced, Shaheen Shah Afridi took the aggressive option, launching Henry into the leg-side. But he didn’t quite get enough on the ball, with Daryl Mitchell gathering before tossing the ball up to his nearby team-mate to leave Henry cock-a-hoop.
The hat-trick was New Zealand’s fourth in men’s T20Is, and just their second since 2010. Pakistan were bowled out for 182 in their first innings, Henry finishing with figures of 3-32.
