Watch: A wayward throw from fielder Mohammad Wasim Jnr accidentally hit Aleem Dar’s shin, leaving the umpire in visible discomfort during the second Pakistan-New Zealand ODI in Karachi.

The incident occurred in the 36th over of New Zealand’s innings, when Glenn Phillips pushed a Haris Rauf delivery towards square leg for a single. Wasim Jnr threw the ball towards the non-striker’s end, away from the reach of a returning Rauf, and right into the shin of umpire Dar. He flinched as the ball approached him, but couldn’t move away in time. The frustration and pain was evident: he flung the bowler’s extra clothing he was carrying, and walked away from the scene. Babar Azam, in the background, had his hands on his head.

Naseem Shah, being the Good Samaritan he is, did what he could to help Dar, giving him a vigorous rub in the shin area. Even by the end of the 41th over, Dar continued to get treatment, with a tape applied to the shin, but he stood on.

New Zealand, meanwhile, suffered a dramatic middle-order collapse, losing five wickets for 20 runs. They were eventually dismissed for 261 in 49.5 overs.
