Set 292 to win at Cardiff, New Zealand had made a positive start to their chase, with a 61-run partnership between Young and Devon Conway putting them on the front foot in the powerplay. But Rashid was brought on to bowl the first over after the powerplay and struck immediately.

Rashid bowled a perfect delivery which pitched on middle, and spun away from the right-hander to hit off-stump. The ball drifted in through the air, before turning away from the bat off the pitch, completely getting the better of Young.

The New Zealand opener departed for 29 off 33 balls, with Henry Nicholls in at three to replace him. Despite the important breakthrough, England still struggled to pick up wickets.

David Willey found Nicholls’ outside edge to dismiss him for 26 and leave New Zealand 117-2, but they continued to make steady progress towards their target through Conway and Daryl Mitchell.

At the time of writing New Zealand require 67 more runs to win in 12 overs with eight wickets in hand.
