England’s XI for the first ODI vs New Zealand: Harry Brook, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (c), Liam Livingstone, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson, Reece Topley.

Harry Brook and Dawid Malan form a new look opening partnership as England start their run-in to the World Cup. Brook was added to the squad earlier this week after impressing in the T20I series. Bairstow picked up a minor injury to his shoulder in the fourth T20I against New Zealand last week, while Roy suffered a back spasm to rule him out of today’s game.

This will be Brook’s fourth ODI cap, having played three matches in South Africa earlier this year, batting at No.4.

Elsewhere in the lineup Ben Stokes comes back into the side for his first ODI since announcing his retirement from the format last year. He reversed his decision to come back into the side ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Gus Atkinson also makes his ODI debut as part of a four-seam attack with Chris Woakes, David Willey and Reece Topley.
