England took three wickets in three balls in a dramatic Stuart Broad over on the third morning of the Lord’s Test against New Zealand.

Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell resumed on 236-4 after putting on 180 together on day two, and the former celebrated his second Test century in the first over of the day.

But the second new ball saw England take control of proceedings, with Broad taking a starring role. The third ball of the 84th over saw Broad find Mitchell’s outside edge, with Ben Foakes holding on behind the stumps. The next delivery saw Broad strike Colin de Grandhomme on the pads; while the umpire’s finger did not go up, an alert Ollie Pope saw the batter venture out of the crease and managed to strike the stumps with a bullet throw from the slip cordon.

That saw Kyle Jamieson walk out to bat and Broad managed to complete a team hat-trick, uprooting the off stump. Broad concluded with a wicket maiden as New Zealand were reduced to 251-7.

New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 285, setting England a target of 277.
