Rocky Flintoff fifty for Lancashire

Watch: Rocky Flintoff, the 16-year-old son of Andrew, scored his first half-century in senior professional cricket for Lancashire during a One Day Cup fixture against Middlesex today (August 8).

Rocky Flintoff's stock has been on the rise through the summer as he has rapidly made strides from age-group cricket to the senior level. Two months back, he got his first call-up for the England U19 side, for whom he scored his maiden 'Test' hundred against Sri Lanka U19.

Now, having made his county debut for the Lancashire first XI fewer than two weeks back, Flintoff has scored his maiden half-century for the club at senior level.

Batting first against Middlesex at Old Trafford, Lancashire lost two quick wickets, bringing Flintoff to the crease in the sixth over. With opener Keshana Fonseka, Flintoff added 58 runs for the third wicket to steady proceedings, before shepherding the rest of the innings.

He reached his fifty in the 32nd over, with a single off Joshua de Caires – the son of another former England captain, Michael Atherton – but carried on until the very end, getting dismissed on the last ball of the 48-over innings, having made 88 off 115 balls. After registering scores of under 15 in each of his first four outings, this knock was just a matter of time for the supremely talented 16-year-old.

Flintoff's knock took Lancashire to 233-9, but Middlesex were looking comfortable in the run-chase at the time of writing, with the scoreboard reading 153-1 in 31 overs.
