Rahane searches lost ball

Somerset were put in to bat by Leicestershire in the semi-final of the 2024 One Day Cup at Taunton today (August 18) after losing the toss. After a solid 91-run opening partnership between George Thomas (47 off 64) and Andrew Umeed (57 off 76), Goldsworthy came to the crease at No.3.

Following Umeed's wicket, he added 131 runs for the third wicket with James Rew, who made 71 off 57. Goldsworthy finished unbeaten on 115 off 86, helping Somerset go past 330 and end up on 334-4 in 50 overs.

Goldsworthy hit six fours and five sixes during his knock, one of which caught the attention more so than others, albeit not for the quality of his stroke-making.

The right-hander slogged a slot ball from Ian Holland over the mid-wicket boundary, where Rahane was stationed. The ball went over the ropes and fell in front of the Leicestershire dugout, ending up getting lost somewhere in their training kit.

Rahane, accompanied by several members of the Lancashire support staff and bench, searched for the match ball for close to a minute amidst the several balls that were there in the training kit, before it was finally found and returned to the umpire for the match to resume.

In the chase, Rahane was dismissed for three off 11 balls. Leicestershire's title defence came to an end as they fell 23 runs short of their target, despite a century from Australia's Peter Handscomb.

Somerset will meet Glamorgan, who beat Warwickshire by 39 runs, in the final in September.
