General view as rain abandons play during the Metro Bank One Day Cup Final match between Somerset and Glamorgan at Trent Bridge

After inclement weather resulted in no play during the 2024 One-Day Cup final between Glamorgan and Somerset at Trent Bridge in Nottingham yesterday (September 22), the weather seems gloomy for the reserve day (September 23) as well.

Yesterday, the toss scheduled to be held at 10:30 am local time yesterday didn’t take place because of persistent rain. Play was eventually abandoned at 2:33 pm after the weather didn’t see an improvement as the chances of starting the match within the cut-off time looked impossible.

As a result, both teams will return to attempt a full contest on the reserve day. However, the chances look bleak as more rain is expected.

What is the weather forecast for the Glamorgan vs Somerset 2024 One-Day Cup final reserve day?

The match is supposed to start at 11 am local time. AccuWeather’s hourly weather forecast predicts between 79 to 87 per cent chance of rain between the match hours.

BBC Weather predicts "heavy rain and a gentle breeze". The chances of precipitation are as high as 90 per cent during the match, with temperature hovering between 15 and 16 degree Celsius.

Weather.com on the other hand has issued a "severe rain" warning, same as yesterday.

What will happen if the reserve day is washed out?

In case of a washout before, the England Cricket Board (ECB) used to resort to a bowl-out to decide the winners. However, the board removed the option this year, allotting reserve days for all men’s and women’s white-ball tournaments.

If there’s no result after the reserve day, Somerset (2019 titleholders) and Glamorgan (2021 titleholders) will share the trophy.
