Watch: Marnus Labuschagne copped a painful blow to the groin off the bowling of South Australia’s Brendan Doggett while batting for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield.
In the 37th over of Queensland’s second innings, a Doggett delivery rose up sharply and crashed right into Queenslander’s box. The batter immediately fell to his knees, taking the support of his arms to remain stable, even as he ensured that he had made his ground.
One of the commentators went, “It’s always quite amusing for the 12 other blokes out on the field, and unfortunately if you are the one that it’s happened to, it’s not quite as amusing.”
The commentators chuckled at Labuschagne’s predicament as the drinks were called out. One of them later added, “Just gotta be careful, he’s in a bit of strife.”
The other added while viewing the replay, “He’s sucking in the deep breaths!”
The blow was more painful than many would have anticipated, for Labuschagne remained laid out on the pitch for close to ten minutes, according to Fox Sports report of the incident. He continued to bat on though, and posted a 179-ball 45, with Queensland saving the game despite conceding a big first-innings lead.
