New South Wales (NSW), the most successful team in Sheffield Shield history, added another title to the cabinet in 2019/20 – can they add one in 2020/21?

Coach: Phil Jaques

Captain: Peter Nevill

Full squad: Peter Nevill (c), Daniel Hughes, Nick Larkin, Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques, Daniel Solway, Jason Sangha, Matthew Gilkes, Sean Abbott, Trent Copeland, Mitchell Starc, Chris Tremain, Nathan Lyon, Liam Hatcher, Harry Conway, Jack Edwards, Tanveer Sangha

Last year’s finish: Champions

Tournament history: New South Wales are, by a distance, the most successful team in Sheffield Shield history. They have won 47 titles, including several stretches of near-complete dominance. Between 1948 and 1966, they won 14 out of 18 titles, while even as recently as 1994 they ended a stretch of six titles in 12 years. Since then however, the other sides have caught up, with just five victorious campaigns coming since the start of the 21st century.

Key player: Harry Conway. New South Wales’ joint-leading wicket-taker in the 2019/20 season is only likely to become more pivotal, with the IPL and bio-bubble restrictions meaning he might have to take on even more of a primary role.
