Chasing 350 against Victoria, Queensland were 273-6 after 40 overs. Pace-bowling all-rounder Will Sutherland was introduced in the attack. The first two balls didn’t yield a run, but Gurinder Sandhu put the third ball away for four. He tried to cut the next ball by clearing his front leg but edged it, and the ball flew to the left of gloveman Sam Harper.
Harper dived towards the ball to attempt the catch but spilled it, and the ball deflected off his gloves. Captain Peter Handscomb, standing at first slip, hurled his body to his right in the blink of an eye to take a low single-handed catch. Sutherland later wrapped up the innings by picking up the last two wickets to bowl out Queensland for 330.
Earlier, opener Matt Short scored 134 (100), aided by all-rounder Jonathan Merlo’s unbeaten 54 (38) to propel Victoria’s score to 349-6.
