Tom Curran taunts Somerset crowd during County Championship fixture

Tom Curran has continued his feud with Somerset fans with a pointed post on his Instagram story following Surrey's County Championship win.

Surrey were confirmed as the winners of the 2024 County Championship this morning (September 20), sealing their third title in a row. The result was sealed when Somerset, as their closest competitors, lost to Lancashire, meaning they could not win enough points in the final round next week to surpass Surrey.

The two sides met in a thrilling encounter last week, which Somerset ended-up winning with three minutes to spare after Surrey collapsed on the final day. During the match, Curran was particularly animated towards the Taunton crowd, signalling towards them with his hands to quieten down whenever he took a wicket. When he dismissed Jack Leach at the end of Day Three, he cupped his hands behind his ears while looking towards the crowd.

Following the narrow loss in the red-ball format. The two sides faced each other again only two days later, in the first semi-final of T20 Blast Finals Day. Surrey once again lost that match, with Curran dismissed for one off five balls in Surrey's innings before taking 1-23 off his four overs.

However, after Surrey were confirmed winners of the Championship over Somerset, Curran was quick to point out that the shoe was on the other foot. He posted a video of himself at The Oval during Surrey's celebrations on his Instagram story, with the caption: "Good morning Somerset fans, what a difference a week makes."

There's further history between Somerset fans and Curran. In 2018, Curran avoided punishment after referring to Somerset fans as "peasants" on Twitter (now X). In a deleted post following a T20 Blast game at Taunton, Curran wrote: "Comfortably the worst crowd I've ever experienced today. A complete embarrassment to Somerset CCC and all the players (who played a great game and are very good men). A bunch of peasants setting a terrible example for the many young kids I saw in the crowd today. Such a shame."

Neither the ECB nor Surrey took action following the post.
