In the Division One match at Manchester, Kent made 261 after Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings opted for his side to field first. Joey Evison top-scored with 71, while Will Williams (3-44), George Balderson (3-67), and Nathan Lyon (3-50) claimed three wickets apiece.
In response, Wes Agar (4-35) and Nathan Gilchrist (6-24) reduced Lancashire to 51-8 before bowling them out for 92 in 30 overs. The hosts did better after Daniel Bell-Drummond asked them to bat again: George Bell (65) and Matthew Hurst (58) lifted them from 122-5 to 332. This time Agar claimed 3-65 and Matt Parkinson 3-70.
Chasing 164, Lancashire lost Zak Crawley early before Ben Compton and Bell-Drummond added 86 for the second wicket. Bowling from over the wicket, Lyon then tossed one up on a leg-and-middle line to the left-handed Compton.
Having already stepped out, Compton misread the pitch of the ball, and could only lob it back to Lyon’s right, and Lyon dived full stretch to grab an excellent catch.
Lyon also dismissed Jack Leaning, but failed to derail Lancashire’s chase. Kent eventually won by seven wickets with their captain Bell-Drummond finishing on 79 not out.
