Bowling from around the wicket, Ben Coad landed the ball on a length outside Billy’s off stump. Billy poked at it while attempting to defend it on his front foot, getting an outside edge. The ball flew towards the first slip where his brother Joe was positioned. Joe reacted by diving with his right hand fully stretched. The ball ricocheted off his fingers and the former England captain dropped the chance before it rolled behind the wicketkeeper as Billy jogged to the other end to complete a single.

Billy eventually fell for a 95-ball 51 against the left-arm spinner Dan Moriarty. Eddie Byrom was the other wicket to fall in the first session as Glamorgan went to lunch at 92-2 after electing to bat first.
