Watch: Archie, son of Michael Vaughan, dismissed opener Ben McKinney in his maiden first-class over during day two of Somerset’s County Championship 2024 fixture against Durham.

Vaughan, 18, signed his first professional contract with Somerset, having been in their academy since 2020. A batting all-rounder, Vaughan can also send down handy off-breaks. While he couldn’t convert his batting start to a significant knock, he was an instant hit with the ball, claiming a wicket in his maiden first-class over.

Coming in to bowl the seventh over of Durham’s first innings, Vaughan conceded seven runs off the first balls. The last ball of the over was when he found success. Bowling from over the wicket, he pitched it around a middle and leg-stump line, turning away from left-hand batter Ben McKinney, who played down the wrong line. McKinney was trapped LBW for 15, with Vaughan setting off in celebration before being joined by his teammates.

Earlier, Vaughan made a 55-ball 30, with Somerset scoring 492.
