Watch: Marnus Labuschagne bowled four successive short-pitched deliveries to Ian Holland during his team Glamorgan’s 2024 County Championship clash with Leicestershire.

Marnus Labuschagne, who was clean bowled while looking to leave a delivery by Scott Currie in the first innings for eight, was given the ball by skipper Sam Northeast for two overs in Leicester on Saturday (May 25). He usually bowls leg-breaks.

He came to bowl the 78th over, almost certainly to fill in before the second new ball, and conceded five. He then got a second over, where he bowled the first two deliveries to Peter Handscomb, who took a single to bring Ian Holland on strike for the last four balls.

What followed was unexpected: Labuschagne bowled seam-up and unleashed four short balls on Holland. The first delivery was a bouncer, which Holland let pass. The other three balls were also seen off by Holland, who was dismissed in the very next over by James Harris.

Glamorgan made 387 in their first innings, with Leicestershire ending day two of the match at 280-5 with Handscomb unbeaten on 102.

Overall, Labuschagne has picked up 80 first-class wickets with best figures of 4-81 in 151 innings thus far. This is not the first time that Labuschagne has departed from bowling spin – during a 2021/22 Sheffield Shield clash, he dismissed Cameron Green with his medium-pace bowling.
