James Anderson County Championship

Ahead of his farewell Test match, James Anderson will play a County Championship match for Lancashire against Nottinghamshire.

James Anderson will retire from Test cricket after the Lord’s Test match against the West Indies, to begin from July 10. Ahead of that, he is likely to feature in Lancashire’s County Championship game against Nottinghamshire, to be played at Southport from June 30.

This will be Lancashire’s last match in the Championship before Anderson’s farewell Test. Another notable inclusion for Lancashire is of Chris Green, who has been named in a County Championship 14-man squad for the first time.

The Lancashire squad has been plagued by injuries. Tom Aspinwall, Jack Morley, Josh Boyden, and Mitch Stanley have all been ruled out, while the workloads of Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood are being managed.

Anderson has taken 1,114 wickets from 296 first-class matches at 24.67, with 54 five-wicket hauls. Among active cricketers, he is the only one with a thousand first-class wickets.

All eyes will be on Anderson during the Lord’s Test match. Not only will this bring his illustrious 21-year, 188-Test career to an end but he will also be in with a chance to take nine wickets and become the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of the format.

For Lancashire, he has 368 wickets at 21.61. He last played for them in 2023, when his four County Championship games fetched him 16 wickets at 20.31, including 4-70 against Essex and 5-76 against Somerset.

With 87 points from eight matches, Lancashire are currently eighth in the ten-team Division One of the County Championship, above only Worcestershire (72) and Kent (62).

Lancashire 14-man squad for Nottinghamshire game: Keaton Jennings (c), Matty Hurst (wk), James Anderson, Nathan Lyon, Tom Bailey, George Balderson, Charlie Barnard, George Bell, Jack Blatherwick, Josh Bohannon, Chris Green, George Lavelle, Luke Wells, Will Williams.
