Farhan Ahmed, the 16-year-old brother of England youngster Rehan Ahmed, has been given a County Championship debut today (August 29) for Nottinghamshire, becoming their youngest-ever player in the competition's history.
The right-arm off-spinner has made history for his age in several formats. He became the youngest-ever player to represent England in an U19 World Cup tournament earlier this year. Now, he has broken Bilal Shafyat's record as the youngest player ever to make his County Championship debut for Nottinghamshire, doing so at 16 years and 189 days old.
Ahmed's older brother, Rehan Ahmed, has also broken records for his age. He became the youngest-ever player to represent England in a men's Test match when he made his debut in the format against Pakistan in 2022 at 18 years and 126 days in age. The older Ahmed has since gone on to play for England across all three formats.
Ahmed's Championship debut today comes after he had success for England Lions against Sri Lanka in a first-class game earlier this month. He took three wickets in the second innings, dismissing Nishan Madushka, Angelo Mathews and Sadeera Samarawickrama.
He also made his senior debut for Nottinghamshire in the One Day Cup, taking 1-69 against Leicestershire - Rehan Ahmed was still on Hundred duty and therefore not playing for Leicestershire at the time.
Nottinghamshire are playing Division One table-toppers Surrey at Trent Bridge today, with the away side opting to bat first, with Ahmed yet to bowl at the time of writing.
