County cricket 2024: List of Indian players in County Championship

Karun Nair (Northamptonshire, 7 matches, April – May)

Nair debuted in the County Championship in September 2023, for Northamptonshire. He made 78, 150, and 21 in his three innings, and will return for seven matches for the first part of the summer in 2024.

Prithvi Shaw (Northamptonshire, from June)

An injury restricted Shaw’s 2023 outing for Northamptonshire to four matches in the 2023 One Day Cup. He hit 244 in the third match and 125 not out in the fourth, In 2024, he will return as Nair’s replacement in the County Championship, from June, and will also be part of the One Day Cup.

Cheteshwar Pujara (Sussex, 7 matches, April – May)

Pujara has had stints for Derbyshire (in 2014), Yorkshire (2015 and 2018), and Nottinghamshire (2017) before becoming a regular at Sussex from 2022. For them, he has amassed 1,743 runs at 79.22 with eight hundreds from 16 matches. He led the county in 2023, but will be available only for the first seven matches in 2024.

Jaydev Unadkat (Sussex, 5 matches, August – September)

Unadkat, Pujara’s captain at Saurashtra, played three matches under him at Sussex in 2023. A left-arm seamer, Unadkat has led Saurashtra to two Ranji Trophy titles. Last summer, his 11 wickets came at 24.18 apiece and included 3-23 and 6-94 against Leicestershire.

Yadvinder Singh (Worcestershire)

This year, Worcestershire signed up 28-year-old seamer Yadvinder Singh, a product of the South Asian Cricket Academy. Born in Rajasthan, Yadavinder – yet to play professional cricket – will play as an overseas cricketer in 2024. He is expected to get a British passport by the start of the 2025 season.

Sai Sudarshan (Surrey)

Sudharsan, who played for Surrey last year, had his contract renewed for this season but only took part in one game, against Essex, as he was picked for India's T20I series in Zimbabwe. He made 14 and 12 in the game.

Ajinkya Rahane (Leicestershire, second half of the season)

Rahane will play the last five games for the club in the ongoing County Championship. He joined Leicestershire in place of Wiaan Mulder, who is expected to travel; to the West Indies with the South African team.

Venkatesh Iyer (Lancashire - two matches)

Iyer will play against Surrey and Hampshire towards the end of August as he embarks on his maiden county stint.

Yuzvendra Chahal (Northamptonshire, second half of the season)

Chahal will be available for Northamptonshire's red-ball season following the One-Day Cup. They have five more fixtures scheduled in the County Championship Division 2.

Prithvi Shaw (Northamptonshire)

Shaw played only four One Day Cup games last year after being ruled out of injury but he left an impact, making 429 runs at an average of 143 and a strike rate of 152.6. His best effort was smashing 244 against Somerset, the sixth-highest List A score.

Ajinkya Rahane (Leicestershire)

Rahane signed a deal with the English club for the entirety of the One-Day Cup where his side are the defending champions. This will be the first time Rahane will play List A games outside India.

Venkatesh Iyer (Lancashire)

According to reports, Iyer was recommended to the club by his IPL teammate Phil Salt, and he will make his county debut against Kent on July 28.

Yuzvendra Chahal (Northamptonshire)

Leg-spinner Chahal joined Northamptonshire on August 14, taking part in their final One-Day Cup league match and picking up 5-14 in the process.
